‘Why can't I just control myself?‘

Binge Eating is a very common and still not often talked about disorder which we need to address. Having dealt with it myself, I KNOW exactly what it is like and how we often try to keep quiet about our struggles with food. We feel ashamed and guilty and are so critical of ourselves.

‘Why can’t I just control ourselves?’

‘Why can’t I be more disciplined?’

‘What is wrong with me?'

When being in the midst of dealing with Binge Eating it can give you the feeling you will never be able to learn how to control yourself around food. But the OPPOSITE is true! We are all so capable to heal ourselves from Binge Eating Disorder and it is way easier than you think!

Causes of Binge-Eating

One of the biggest revelations to have is that Binge-Eating patterns are most of the times caused by:

  • Calorie restriction/deprivation (aka dieting)

    Here we are, trying to control ourselves around food, be healthier or reach some goals we have set for ourselves. We are following a certain diet and have rules we are trying to follow. But it seems like the stronger we hold on to the restrictions we have created for ourselves, the stronger the urges to binge get!

    When we are calorie depriving, we burn more calories than we consume. Because our bodies are still wired for survival, it will send signals to the more primal part of our brain. The calorie restriction is met by the defense mechanisms of our body, sending signals that make us want to eat more. The Binge urges that come up, are actually a natural result of not consuming enough calories.

    Other possible CAUSES are:

  • Dealing with negative emotions or engaging in self-judgement

  • Conscious/Sub-conscious food rules: Put (certain) food on a pedestal, so they become way more appealing to you!

  • Last Supper mentality: ‘Now we can have it, because after this I have to go back to my diet’

 Often the urge starts due to one of these things. Nevertheless, after a while, the core trigger (one of these causes) is not necessary anymore for us to experience the urge. After a while, a pattern is created in our mind. Since our mind is now conditioned, the urge might now come up every time we are experiencing a certain emotion (feeling stressed due to work), during a certain time of day (in the evening after dinner) or when we are in a certain place we have binged in before (the couch in the living room for example). Our brain has connected the situation itself to the urge to binge and now the desire will come up every time.  

Understanding now how Binge Eating Disorder arises, we can work in sink with our mind! This where incredible transformation is possible!

HOW TO STOP BINGE EATING

This program is going deeply into reconditioning the neuro-pathways we have laid down connected to Binge Eating.

This is a program to give you all the tools needed to recover from Binge Eating. To teach you how to stop Binge Eating. This is meant for you, if you want to stop binging and quit emotional eating patterns which just leave you feeling worse. There is not a specific box  which you need to fit in, when it comes to struggling with Binge Eating. It is not about the amount of times it happend to you or the duration you have been struggling with. This program is for you, if you feel you lose control around food sometimes. If you feel ashamed and scared when it comes to your decisions around food and if you feel alone in dealing with all of this!

DURATION OF THE PROGRAM

We always start out with an Introductory session. In this session we look at:

  • Your personal journey, history and current difficulties with food and your body

  • Your goals and your personal needs

From there we discuss which approach might suit best for you.This program is meant to be unique and completely personalized to you. That is why there is not a specific duration the program includes. In most cases we dive into a process of 1 to 2 months. Depending on the person, we’'ll have a session once or twice a week.
