Out of the Belly Box!

Out of the Belly Box!

One of the most special things about our bodies, is that it is unique. No body looks the same. No body feels the same probably and no body should be compared

Yes we compare. We compare and we compare and we compare.

Looking from the pictures of models to the reflection in the mirror.

Never seeing what we feel should be there.

Why I wanted to do this project

I wanted to do this project, to show the REALITY of our bodies! The fact that there is so much VARIETY out there. For most of the women, their body doesn’t look like we see in the magazines. And it was never supposed to look like that anyway. Not only are these pictures altered and shown from a specific angle to create a skinnier image, every body grows and shapes in its own unique way. Growing up, going through happy and rough times, giving birth.. Our bodies are the map of our life.

This project has taught me so much. Most of all, it made me see how important it is to spread this message. The message of body appreciation. To show people we are all looking different and we are supposed to look unique! We were never actually meant to fit into a tiny box all together. We were meant to create our own uniquely shape, whether it is a box, a circle or a pear.

So many women that I met due to this project told me they felt embarrassed. Words like:

‘You don’t want to see what is underneath this!’

‘My belly is really ugly’

‘I can’t show you THIS.’

A Reflection of Reality

I want this project to be a reflection of reality and a reminder for all of us. A reminder to appreciate our body, whatever it looks like. To cherish it and treat it well. To speak kindly to ourselves and to others. To pay attention to the words we use to describe our appearance, for loved ones are also listened and get influenced by it. Let’s complement our sisters, for it is sometimes easier to inert kindness from external sources.

Let’s create a loving space when it comes to our physical body.

Let’s do it together.
