A thought cannot make you act. This sentence changed my life.

Quick summary

  • You can feel an urge without acting on it.

  • Every different choice creates new evidence for the person you’re becoming.

  • Resistance when doing something new is often just old wiring, not a command you have to follow.

So this turned my life upside downnn.

A thought cannot make you act.

I heard this from a coach when I was struggling with binge eating, and it completely changed how I understood my cravings.

It's an example I share with my clients now almost on a daily basis.

Because how often do we think:

  • I need to stop thinking about this first.

  • I need to get rid of this feeling first.

  • I need to WANT something different before I can actually DO something different.

But what if we can feel the urge and still choose a different action?

And every time you do, you create a little more evidence for the person you’re becoming.

I love the image Lauren Dudley shared in one of her posts a couple of weeks ago:

With every decision you get a coin and you get to decide in which bucket you put it.

That's all.

What we can prepare for, is that when we’re doing something new our system is going to respond with resistance.

But it's just old wiring and remember: A thought can not make you act.

Weekly self-reflection 👇

So this week, ask yourself:

What is a thought you have, that is ‘keeping you‘ from moving forward?
